Disappointment

Lately, I was so exicted to discover the new M. Night Shyamalan movie : “The Last Airbender” .

M. Night Shyamalan is a master in mixing science fiction with suspens. He was twice nominated for the Oscar for “The Sixth Sense” 1999 (Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment) as the Best Director and the Best Writting. I will always remember  my fear while watching “Signs” (2002) with Mel Gibson, my terror while watching “The Village” (2004) with Joaquin Phoenix and my shock seeing people kill themselves in “The Happening” (2008) with Mark Wahlberg. This latter had already some bad critics due to the light acting and the simple, almost stupid, script they had to play.

The Last Airbender” is completely a different kind.  Visual effect are well done, acting … let’s say so-so …  I wasn’t convinced at all, but the scenario … he completely missed it. It is a movie for kids, or worst a pop movie : no suspens, no mystery and so predictable. And what makes it more disappointed, they made the movie in order to expect a serie. So, not only we already had a bad scenario, but there were no ending…

Actually, “The Last Airbender” , is the remake of a famous series “Avatar“.

Avatar - The Last Airbender

Even, the Avatar fans though it was a disaster because in one hand, so many parts of the series were swallowed that we, simple viewers wouldn’t understand the important of the issues … or just wouldn’t understand anything. In one another hand, M. Night Shyamalan wasn’t faithful to the series. Just an example : 3 main characters (Prince Zuko, Katara, Sokka) were asiatic in the series, in the movie they became white people (Dev Patel from “Slumdog millionaire” , Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone) …

Who's who

Anyway, my disappointment comes mainly from the ” M. Night Shyamalan movie” part. This is not what I expected from him. Without that part, this movie wouldn’t be that “bad” after all …

 QUOTES :

Katara: My name is Katara. And I’m the only Waterbender left in the Southern Water Tribe.

More like “I’m Pink Power Ranger”  …

Gran Gran: He will begin to change hearts, and it is in the heart that all wars are won.
